A number of hotel operators and companies are looking at ways to stop resisting the sharing economy and instead use it to their advantage.
As the saying goes, if you can’t beat them, join them. That’s been the response by some hotel operators and companies to the threat (some would say opportunity) provided by Airbnb and other so-called sharing economy websites that are shoehorning their way onto the turf of the traditional hotel industry.
Anecdotally, I hear of an increasing number of hotel operators—typically economy or budget properties, some independents, some chain-affiliated—putting parts of their inventory into the Airbnb system. Why not, especially if it is excess inventory and the pricing is competitive with other Airbnb hosts in your area but doesn’t differ greatly from your prevailing pricing structure?
